Getting to Paradise is a BITCH, Part II

So, where did I leave off?
Oh, yes.

Missed part I of this little story?  Find it here.

So, there we are, the fiance and I...
On the ledge of a cliff, that drops down to the rocky ocean, aka instant death.
In the pitch black darkness.
With only one working headlamp.
And no idea what was ahead of us.

About to sh*t my pants (in fact, I think I may have peed a little),
I really did not think it could possibly get ANY worse.

Well, I was wrong.

Out of no where, the fiance and I hear, "scrrrrreeeecccccchhhh".
This will forever be the most horrifying sound I have ever heard in my life.
It was coming from right in front of us.
We had no idea what or where it was.

It came again,

My reaction to this unknown sound of death?
I started to cry hysterically. And, I may have completely peed myself by this point.
I just stood there frozen and sobbing.

The fiances reaction?
He grabs me and starts shouting and screaming into the darkness.
It didn't take long for him to realize it was a very wild, very angry, mama boar.

Yes, a wild boar.
That wanted us off the cliff,
in the ocean.

He continues to shout and scream until the thing goes away, or so we hope...
I proceed to cry, hysterically.

At this point, I knew I was officially in hell.
The bowels of darkness and death.
I was going to die.

After about 5 minutes of screaming and yelling, the fiance decides we can start to move forward.
So, very slowly, one small step at a time, we walk forward.
I was in front with the headlamp, he was behind me, following my steps.

All I could think about was what would I do if he fell or the boar came back?

It didn't take long for the fiance to accept that we needed to set up camp- anywhere.
We were not going to make it to the 6 mile campsite.

So, he found a spot.

The fiance slept on a giant rock digging into his side.
And I slept half in a ditch.

Surprisingly, the ditch was the least of my worries.
I was more concerned about possible rain and flash floods,
and, our friend, the boar, who circled the tent the entire night.

I was in HELL.

The next morning, I wanted to turn back.  Go to a nice hotel.
Who cares if I blew all my money- as long as I was far away from that damn boar and flash flooding.

But, I agreed to keep going.
Which made this man very happy.

I, on the other hand, was miserable.
Despite the gorgeous scenery,
my blistered feet and the lack of sleep took control.
I just wanted it to be over.

Yes, those are the cliffs you see.

Hours and hours later,
the beach was in sight.

We were almost there.

The last mile was the hardest part.
My blisters had popped and I could barely walk.

The fiance took my bag and had to carry it down the hill to the beach.
My feet were in such pain, the only way I could get down was on my butt.

I kid you not.

But, we made it.
Despite the pain, terror, and peeing my pants,
we made it,

Right away, I completely understood why this place is so worth the journey...

A completely unspoiled beach.
absolute paradise.

Part III, next.
(I promise it won't be a month later this time)

This sounds like something my boyfriend would make me do. Ee went to Hawai'i this past summer so I could meet his family, where I was keen just to lounge and eat for two weeks. He insisted we do one 'easy' hike while we were Oahu and I about died. I also go the worst sunburn of my life.

Oh the things we do for the outdoorsy boys in our lives.

Oh my word...I know it wasn't funny, but I literally laughed out loud reading this. I'm actually convinced that your hysteria might have frightened off the boar more than your fiance shouting at it!

Can't wait to read part III!

SO amazing! I would have started crying to. As much as i love camping, I hate being alone in the dark. When I have to go pee I always try to wake up my husband to go with me and cry if he doesn't! haha
