Bling Blinging

Hey friends,

Today I had to link-up with C Mae over at Happiness Is... found here.

She decided to do a Ring Bling Link-up to allow all of us ladies to show off our wedding and engagement rings!

If you want to join in, head on over to her blog and share your ring with all of us!!!

I knew from the beginning that the fiance was not going to purchase his future wife a diamond.
Initially, I was annoyed.  Very annoyed.
But after hearing his reason, and learning more, I understood why...

Unfortunately, the diamond business is extremely corrupt.
The fiance did not want me wearing any blood diamonds, and to be quite honest, neither did I.

I will write my entire engagement story at a different time,
but I will share this now...

The love of my life originally proposed with a tiny little emerald ring, since he knew I loved emeralds.
The view was spectacular.
We were completely alone.
The timing was perfect.
The entire proposal was perfection.

Although I loved this little emerald, we decided to get something a little bigger while exploring the markets in Nepal.

After doing some research, and contacting a trustworthy jeweler,
we designed this little beauty- together...

OK, it's not so little.
But, it's beautiful.
And, so so different.

(No, I was not thinking Kate Middleton when I designed this ring)

Our engagement story is so unique, and so special, it's only fitting that my ring be special and different too.

I will never, ever wear diamonds.
And, through this whole process I've learned I don't need to.
There are so many other, equally beautiful gems out there.

Don't get me wrong.  Diamonds are gorgeous.
And diamond engagement rings are beautiful.
They just aren't for us.

I don't remember the exact specs for this ring.
I think it's 3 carats.
It is lovely.

(Thanks to this post, I am now reminded that I need to clean this bad boy and take some more picture of it actually on my chubby fingers)

Oh and I do have a question for all you married or engaged ladies out there:
Do you take yours off when you work out, shower, sleep, etc.

I definitely don't.
Just wanted to know if this is normal :)

Hope ya'll are having a great night!

Hey DIFFERENT it GOOD!!! I'm glad you didn't feel the need to conform to "societies" standards of what is a wedding ring and what isn't! Thank you so much for participating and linking up!

beautiful! I love the story behind it - it's so great that you guys are sticking to your guns and avoiding diamonds. it's honorable. personally, as far as my own future engagement ring is concerned, I am completely torn between diamonds and sapphires. I love the classic-ness of a diamond ring, but at the same time, I think sapphire makes for something more unique [plus I am absolutely OBSSESSED with Kate Middleton's ring. I want it. so badly]. all of this is hypothetical talk anyway, since I'm nowhere close to being engaged. :]

Absolutely beautiful!

Your ring is so lovely. Sapphires are my birthstone and I have always loved them. In the last couple of years I have seen so many gorgeous and unusual rings. I think it's great that you went this route.

Congrats- that ring is gorgeous! My hubby was the same way. I did end up with a diamond ring, but only because it was his grandma's that was passed down to me. He says he would never want to buy a diamond, and I'm ok with that. You're right- there are so many other beautiful gems out there!

I totally take mine off when I get home. I don't like to cook in it and get it dirty.. and I can't sleep in it cause my fingers swell! ):

Go check out my giveaway!!

That is a beautiful ring!

I used to never take my ring off for anything. But then my diamond started to get loose and my jeweler told me to start taking it off at night because it is probably getting caught in the sheets while I sleep and that was making the prongs loose. My ring does seem to stay cleaner longer now though!

I love that ring! Definitely Kate Middleton-esque. The color is lovely :)

Your ring is beautiful!

I never take my rings off except when I'm cooking something particularly messy (dough sticks to ring prongs like nobody's business!). I did have to go ring-less during the latter half of my pregnancy, and I couldn't wait to get them back on after my son was born!

I like how special/different it is! I want to hear the engagement story. :)

Very pretty, and I totally understand your reasoning for not wanting a diamond. I generally take mine off only when I think there is a possibility of it getting damaged - i.e. cleaning house, horseback riding (I've smashed my finger several times, and actually crushed a ring once before), etc. I also take it off (but never out of sight) when I put lotion on because it gets all gunked up, and I'd have to clean it more often. I also had to leave it off when we went snorkeling & swimming with dolphins because some of the sea life try to eat sparkly things ;-) Thanks for sharing your story!

your ring is beautiful too! simple and classic. and you're right, there are so many other beautiful stones out there!

I almost never take my ring off..
Unless I am showering.. and even then, I wouldn't take it off if it didn't get so loose!
I am just funny about it.
I think when you keep it on all the time it just "feels" more like a commitment!!

Is that weird?
I don't know. I have just always seen my mom and my grandmother doing everything with their rings on.

It just seems natural to me!

Well, I think it really is the perfect moment for you. And just like any diamond ring, the emerald ring is beautiful and stunning on its own right, making it the perfect engagement ring. Actually, gemstones can be a good alternative for diamonds because these can equal the beauty of any diamond, without the hefty price tag.
