Green Fridays!

Starting today is Green Friday.

Every Friday I will be posting one way to help out the environment a little.  This is a topic that is in need of more attention, so why not start here?

These are tips that I plan on integrating into my own life.  Whether you chose to do the same it up to you.

Green Friday Tip#1

Since it's the first week, I'll make this one easy.  In fact, many of you may have done this years ago.

Change your light bulb

Super easy.

Rather than using the regular light bulbs we all grew up with, switch to the compact fluorescent bulbs.

According to the Consumer Energy Center, "A single 20-watt compact fluorescent lamp used in place of a 75-watt incandescent will save about 550 kilowatt-hours over its lifetime. If your electricity is produced in a coal-fired power plant (like 20 percent of California's electricity is), that savings represents nearly 500 pounds of coal not burned, which means that 1,300 pounds of carbon dioxide and 20 pounds of sulfur dioxide will not get into the atmosphere."

It is true that these light bulbs cost a little more than the regular bulbs we're all used to.  But, in the long run, you'll actually save money with lower energy bills.

Plus, you'll be helping our environment!

So, give it some thought.  Every light bulb counts!
